Australia 2013 : Merry Christmas Island FDC

The Christmas Island Christmas stamp issue takes a colourful approach to its subject. The illustrations use local fauna to link Christmas to the island named by Captain William Mynors, who sailed past it on 25 December 1643. Santa rides on the back of a Frigatebird, a banner announcing tidings of the festive season. Meanwhile, a Frigatebird and a Red Crab ferry a payload of presents in a hot-air balloon, with Christmas Island far below in the shimmering blue waters of the Indian Ocean.
