Australia 1991 : Australian Insects FDC

More than 50,000 different species of insect are known in Australia.. Some are pests and irritants; many are very beautiful. The brightly-coloured Cotton Harlequin Bug (Tectocoris diophthalmus) is one of a group of bugs of varying hues found in northern and eastern Australia. Castiarina producta is a rare species of jewel beetle found in the woodlands and heathlands of New South Wales and Queensland. The bright colour of grasshopper, Petasida ephippigera, found in Arnhem Land, indicates to predators that it is poisonous. Cizara ardenia is one of the most elegant of the eastern Australian hawk moths. Also illustrated on the cover is a stick insect, Didymura violescens.
