Malaysia 2018 : Telegraph Museum FDC



TELEGRAPH MUSEUM 

Muzium Telegraf Taiping dahulunya dikenali sebagai Pejabat Pos & Telegraf (P&T). Ia merupakan pejabat pertama di Malaysia yang menyediakan perkhidmatan telegram, telefon, pos, dan kemudahan perbankan sehenti untuk orang ramai sejak tahun 1885. Selaras dengan perkembangan industri, pejabat ini juga pernah digunakan sebagai Pejabat Kelab Jabatan Telekom dan Pejabat Operasi Teknikal Telekom Malaysia (TM). Muzium ini terletak di tengah-tengah bandar Taiping kira-kira 67 kilometer dari Bandaraya Ipoh. Ia juga berada di penghujung laluan keretapi terawal di Malaysia yang menghubungkan Taiping dan Kuala Sepetang (Port Weld). Dengan wujudnya sistem telegraf dan keretapi ini, ianya telah menjadi salah satu faktor terpenting dalam perkembangan industri perlombongan bijih timah di Larut seterusnya menjana perkembangan ekonomi Tanah Melayu pada masa itu. 

Taiping Telegraph Museum, formerly known as Post & Telegraph Office (P&T), is the first office in Malaysia providing a one-stop telegram, telephone, postal and banking facilities for the public since 1885. In line with industry development, this office was also used as the Telekom Malaysia's Telecommunication Department (TM). The museum is located in the heart of Taiping city about 67 kilometers from the Ipoh city. It is also the forefront of the earliest railway route in Malaysia connecting Taiping and Kuala Sepetang (Port Weld). With the existence of this telegraph and railway system, it has become one of the most important factors in the development of the tin mining industry in Larut, thereby generating the economic development of Malaya at that time. 

Senibina /Architecture 

Bangunan ini merupakan salah sebuah bangunan kolonial yang terawal di Perak. Tanya dibina oleh Jabatan Kerja Raya, Kerajaan Negeri Perak dibawah seliaan jurutera St. Caufield. Pembinaannya dimulakan pada tahun 1883 melibatkan kos sejumlah 4,070 Dolar Selat. Reka bentuknya menampilkan seni bina gays Queen Anne pada era 1880-an hingga 1890-an yang ditonjolkan melalui gerbang Mansory. Struktur asas bangunan dan dinding menggunakan batu bata tanah list jenis English Bond. Rangka utama, tingkap, pintu, dan lantai dihasilkan dari kayu Merbau, Meranti Merah dan Durian. Bumbungnya diperbuat daripada atap genting seramik sementara dinding bangunan dilepa dengan bancuhan batu kapur. 

This building is one of the earliest colonial buildings in Perak. It was built by the Public Works Department, Perak State Government under the supervision of Si. Caufield. Construction started in 1883 with a total cost of 4,070 Straits Doldars. The design features Queen Anne's architecture in the 1880s to 1890s highlighted by the Mansory arches. The basic structure of the building and the walls use English Bond clay bricks. The main frame, windows, doors, and floors are made of the logs from the Merbau, Meranti Merah and Durian trees. The roof is made of ceramic roof tiles, while the walls of the building are plastered with limestone. 

MUZIUM TELEGRAF TAIPING/TELEGRAPH MUSEUM TAIPING 

Muzium Telegraf Taiping merupakan muzium telegraf yang pertama di Asia Tenggara, memaparkan perkembangan awal sistem telekomunikasi khasnya sistem telegraf. Muzium ini memaparkan sistem telegraf yang merupakan titik permulaan perkembangan sistem komunikasi Tanah Melayu.Halaman muzium ini dikenali dengan Dataran Muzium Telegraf dihiasi dengan pokok-pokok yang berkaitan dengan teknologi telegraf pada suatu masa dahulu seperti pokok Gutta Percha, Keruing, Merbau, Tempinis, Tembusu, Chengal dan Meranti. Hasil balak dari pokok ini digunakan untuk membuat tiang telegraf kecuali pokok Nyatoh Taban Merah.

The Taiping Telegraph Museum is the first telegraph museum in Southeast Asia, highlighting the early development of the telecommunications system, specifically the telegraph system. The museum displays a telegraph system which is the starting point for the development of the Malaya communication system. The museum's courtyard is known as the Telegraph Museum Square and is adorned with trees related to telegraph technology at that time such as Gutta Percha, Keruing, Merbau, Tempinis, Tembusu, Chengal and Meranti. Except for the Nyatoh Taban Merah, logs from these tree species are used to make telegraph poles. 

Pokok Nyatoh Taban Merah merupakan sejenis tumbuhan yang terdapat di hutan Malaysia dan negara-negara ASEAN yang lain. Nama botaninya Palaquium Gutta. Pokok yang dikenali sebagai pokok Getah Percha oleh penduduk tempatan adalah dari jenis kayu keras dan mampu mencapai ketinggian 40 meter (130 kaki). Pokok ini mempunyai nilai ekonomi yang tinggi terutamanya getah yang dihasilkan. Bagi memenuhi permintaan eksport, perladangan pokok Nyatoh Taban Merah telah dirnulakan di Tanah Melayu. Kaedah pemprosesan telah ditemui oleh pihak British, dimana batu pengisar digunakan sebagai salah satu alat penting dalam pemprosesan ini. Getah daripada proses ini digunakan sebagai penebat kabel dasar laut pertama di dunia pada tahun 1849. Kabel-kabel ini menghubungkan sistem kabel dasar laut dunia dari United Kingdom ke Australia termasuk Pulau Pinang. Dari sini talian telegraf dihubungkan ke Pejabat Pos SE '- Telegraf Taiping. Getah ini juga merupakan barang dagangan yang berharga pada abad ke-19 sebagai slat perhiasan diri golongan bangsawan di Eropah. Bola golf terawal jugs dihasilkan dengan getah ini. Kini, ianya digunakan secara meluas dalam bidang perubatan dan pergigian iaitu sebagai salah satu bahan rawatan akar gigi. 

Nyatoh Taban Merah tree is found in Malaysia's forests and other ASEAN countries. Its botanical name is Palaquium Gutta. The tree known locally as Getah Percha trees is a kind of hardwood and is capable of reaching a height of 40 meters (130 ft). . This tree has a high economic value especially for the rubber produced. To meet the export demand, Nyatoh Taban Merah tree plantation was started in Malaya. The method of processing was discovered by the British, where the mill became an important tool.  Rubber from this process was used in the world's first submarine cable insulation in 1849. These cables connected the world's submarine cable system from the United Kingdom to Australia including Penang. From here, it also connected to the Taiping Post & Telegraph office. This rubber is also a valuable merchandise of the 19th century as a noble symbol of European aristocracy. The earliest of golf balls were also produced with this rubber. Nowadays, it is widely used in medicine and dentistry.
