Malaysia 2016 : Pengangkutan Sungai FDC


  
SARAWAK 

Sarawak mempunyai 55 batang sungai dengan jarak berjumlah 3,300 km panjang yang meliputi kawasan seluas 124,450 kilometer persegi. Antara semua sungai-sungai di Sarawak, Sungai Rejang adalah yang paling penting yang digunakan oleh pelbagai komuniti di sepanjang sungai. Ia juga merupakan sungai yang terpanjang di Malaysia dengan jarak 773 km panjang, yang mana 567 km daripada itu boleti dilalui. Sibu, bandar terbesar di sepanjang Rejang, adalah pelabuhan sungai yang paling sibuk. 

Sejak berkurun lamanya, pelbagai jenis pengangkutan sungai digunakan di Sarawak untuk mengangkut penumpang serta barangan. Antara pengangkutan sungai yang biasa dilihat termasuklah perahu panjang, bot perang yang kini digunakan dalam regata, bot dayung, rakit, sampan, bot tunda, feri dan bot kargo. Walaupun jalan raya kini semakin banyak dibina untuk menggantikan peranan pengangkutan sungai, is masih kekal sebagai cara penting bagi pengangkutan penumpang dan barangan di Sarawak. 

Sarawak has a total of 55 navigable rivers with a combined length of 3,300 km in an area of 724,450 sq. km. Of all the rivers in Sarawak, the Rejang is the most important as it serves many communities up and downriver. It is also the longest in Malaysia, with a total length of 773 km long and navigable up to 567 km. Sibu, the largest town along the Rejang, is the busiest riverine port. 

Many forms of river transport have been used throughout the ages in Sarawak to serve people and their goods. The longboats, war boats which arc now used in regattas, paddling boats, rafts, sampans, tugboats, ferries and cargo boats are a common scene. Although roads are now being paved everywhere to replace the role of river transport, this system will still remain an important means of transportation of passengers and goods.

Perahu panjang dengan enjin sangkut mula digunakan di  awal 1900-an, menggantikan bot dayung yang banyak menggimakani tenaga manusia untuk mendayung. Perahu panjang boleh dijumpai di penempatan pantai dan kawasan pedalaman Sarawak, dan adalah milik persendirian untuk mengangkut penumpang, barangan dan memancing. Walaupun bentuk perahu panjang adalah sama rendah dan sempit, badan kapal adalah berbeza-beza, bergantung kepada jenis laluan air yang akan diambil. Dilengkapi dengan motor sangkut, perahu-perahu ini bergerak di sepanjang sungai dengan laju dan tangkas. 

The longboat or 'perahu panjang' is a relatively new invention, taking over from the human-powered paddling boats, due to the availability of outboard engines in the early 1900s. These boats are found in coastal settlements and the interiors of Sarawak and are owned privately for transporting passengers, goods and for fishing. Interestingly, while the shapes of the boats are similarly low-lying and narrow, the hulls are built differently, depending very much on the kinds of waterway the boat will travel on. Equipped with outboard motors; they move along the rivers with surprising speed and agility. 

Bot Ekspress

Bot Ekspres masih menjadi kaedah pengangkutan penting dalam menghubungkan sungai dan bandar-bandar di persisiran pantai. Bot ekspres mula digunakan di sekitar tahun 1960-an dan ia pertama kali digunakan di antara Sarikei dan Sibu. Bermula daripada bot berasaskan kayu, bot logam pula dibina dan terus berkhidmat untuk mengangkut penumpang dan barangan menghubungkan Kuching ke Sibu, Miri ke Marudi dan bandar-bandar persisiran pantai dan sungai yang lain. Hasil daripada penggunaan bot ekspres, Sibu menjadi limbungan kapal yang terulung di Sarawak dan kini membina kapal-kapal untuk pasaran global. 

Express boats continue to provide an important form of transportation to connect riverine and coastal towns, although roads are now providing an alternative mode of travel. The era of the express boat dawned in the 1960s and was first used between Sarikei and Sibu. From wooden launches, metal-based express boats were made and continue to serve passengers and goods, connecting Kuching to Sibu, Miri to Marudi and other coastal and riverine towns. Interestingly, due to the express boats, Sibu became the undisputed queen of shipyards in Sarawak and now builds for the global market.  

Perahu Tambang

Perahu Tambang adalah perahu yang ikonik. Ia digunakan di sepanjang Sungai Sarawak selama beratus-ratus tahun sehingga kini. Perahu Tambang digunakan untuk mengangkut penumpang yang ingin menyeberang dari bandar Kuching ke kampung-kampung Melayu berhampiran. Ia masih digunakan oleh mereka yang lebih suka mengambil jalan pintas kerana perjalanan melalui sungai mengambil masa hanya 5 minit berbanding setengah jam melalui jalan raya. Selain penduduk tempatan, perahu tambang juga menjadi tarikan pelancong kerana ia adalah cara yang murah dan seronok untuk melihat bandar dari sungai bersejarah ini. 

The iconic 'perahu tambang' has been a common sight along the Sarawak River for hundreds of years. Passengers are ferried across the river from Kuching city to the Malay kampongs nearby and these boats are still used by those who prefer to take this short cut as it is a 5 minutes trip instead of the half hour road trip. Besides the local residents, these boats have also become a tourist attraction as it is a cheap and great way to see the city from this historic river. 

Rakit

Rakit selalu digunakan di sungai tanah tinggi dan sungai yang airnya terlalu cetek untuk perahu. Penduduk kampung menggunakan rakit untuk pergi ke ladang-ladang mereka dan mengangkut hasil tanaman. Ketika air terlalu cetek, rakit boleh diangkat dengan mudah. Buluh adalah bahan utama yang digunakan untuk membina rakit kerana ia adalah ringan, banyak terdapat di human dan mudah digunakan. Kini, rakit juga menjadi tarikan pelancong dan pertandingan berakit juga diadakan setiap tahun. 

Rafts have always been used in the upland streams and rivers where the water is generally too shallow for boats. Villagers use them to go to their farms and transport their produce. When the river is too shallow, the raft is easily carried. Bamboo is the main material used as it is light and found in abundance and easy to build. These days, rafting has become a tourist attraction and there are also rafting competitions held yearly.
