Australia 2002 : The Magic Rainforest FDC

The Magic Rainforest is a new Australian fantasy especially written for Australia Post by well-known author, John Marsden. Beautifully illustrated by Heather Potter and Mark Jackson. The Magic Rainforest is about Sam and his friend Naomi who are charged with bringing back some water from a spring deep in the forest where the purest water on earth runs from a crack between the rocks. The water is for Sam's grandfather who is old and preparing himself for death. On their journey through the forest Sam and Naomi meet a Bunyip covered in barnacles and starfish who is deaf, very slow moving and has a dreadful booming voice; a fairy who glitters and sparkles, shimmers and shines and love blackberries; a Gnome decorated in jewels, brandishing a sword, and demanding gold and diamonds, rubies, jewels and travelers' cheques; a very cunning Goblin who smells like a wombat that's been dead for a fortnight and carries a stock whip; a sinister Wizard around whom the air crackles and dreadful things may happen; and lastly a beautiful and ethereal Sprite who guards the magic spring.
