Although most of Australia is classified as dry or arid, the continent is home to a great variety of flowering plants. The vivid red Stuffs Desert Pea (Swainsona formosa) is perhaps the desert's most spectacular flower and the floral emblem of South Australia. The Coarse-leaved Mallee (Eucalyptus grossa) is a small tree native to Western Australia with attractive yellow blooms. One of 49 species of Thysanotus in Australia, the delicate Common Fringe Lily (Thysanotus tuberosus) is widespread in heath, woodland and open forest in all mainland states. The Swamp Daisy (Actinodium cunninghamii) is a small shrub around a metre high with daisy-like pink and white flowers, found in Western Australia.
